ABOUT JOEL

From Hanover, Pennsylvania, Joel "The Wolf" Licata's journey to becoming a traditional Muay Thai fighter began in 2014 as a way to stay fit and have fun. Working in music production and printing presses back home, Joel discovered Muay Thai and started watching Lumpinee fights from 2012–2015. What began as fitness turned into something deeper—a beautiful sport that gave him drive, purpose, and connections with people around the world.

In December 2016, Joel faced a major setback: an ACL tear requiring surgery. For most fighters, that would be the end. Joel came back stronger, proving his commitment to the art went beyond temporary obstacles.

Over the past decade, Joel has compiled 51 fights, earning the B-Class USMTO East Championship, North Siam Boxing Commission International Championship, and Patong Fight Night Championship. His most memorable achievement came winning the North Thailand title right after COVID-19 restrictions lifted—a moment that symbolized both his perseverance through the pandemic and his dedication to fighting in Thailand, where Muay Thai was born.

Five and a half years ago, Joel turned professional and made the ultimate commitment: he moved to Chiang Mai, Thailand, to fight full-time. During the COVID period, he trained at Sit Thailand Muay Thai gym under Thailand Pinsinchai for 2.5 years. Now, he trains at Sit Thaharneak Gym under Kru Wua. Living and fighting in Thailand isn't just about training—it's about immersion in the culture, the traditions, and the authentic style that defines real Muay Thai.

Known as a Muay Femur/Khao hybrid fighter, Joel's signature defensive technique is his lean-back from head kicks—a move requiring timing, composure, and technical precision. His fighting philosophy is straightforward: win and don't take damage. He's a student of traditional Thai style, the kind of fighter who respects the art's roots and refuses to compromise its integrity.

Joel is unapologetically traditional. "I'm Thai style, traditional style. Don't like brawling/kickboxing and calling it 'muay thai.'" For him, Muay Thai isn't just about violence or aggression—it's about technique, timing, rhythm, and respect for the art form. His style reflects years of studying Lumpinee fights and learning from Thai trainers who carry generations of knowledge.

His current goals reflect his dedication to fighting at the highest levels: don't get knocked out again, win at Rajadamnern Stadium, and fight and win at Omnoi Stadium—two of the most prestigious venues in Muay Thai. These aren't casual ambitions; they're the dreams of a fighter who moved halfway around the world to chase authenticity and test himself where it matters most.

Shaped by years of training in the birthplace of Muay Thai under mentors like Thailand Pinsinchai and Kru Wua, Joel embodies what it means to be a true practitioner of the art. He fights full-time, balancing nothing but training, fighting, and living the life he chose.
